What is the best way to record a podcast?

There are three main ways to record a podcast:

Home-studio podcasting

This is by far the easiest and cheapest way to record a podcast. All that is required is a microphone and audio editing software. You can even convert your audio file into a video file and add an image or gif as the background, for platforms such as YouTube.

Fast and easy, this may be a great way to experiment with podcasting before opting for the more costly alternatives. Unfortunately, this method is far less engaging for anyone wanting to steam your podcast on a video-friendly platform.

Home-studio video podcasting

An upgrade to the above, one way in which you can podcast is from your own home. However, if you opt for the more budget home setups, there are often disadvantages paired with the slightly cheaper options regarding audio quality. Plus, whilst this may seem like a cheaper option to recording in a studio, it can actually prove to be quite costly if you want higher production quality. The cost of hardware and software can be high particularly if podcasting isn’t something you attend to do frequently.

In-studio podcasting

This is the step from home-studio video podcasting, and you will definitely feel the difference. Unless you are able to get your hands on industry-standard equipment (which can cost over £7,000), recording in a studio is going to provide the highest quality audio and production. Plus, from £70 an hour, the cost-benefit ratio is definitely worth it.

How to produce a podcast?

Are you thinking of starting a podcast? Starting your own podcast is a fantastic way to share ideas, information and even market your brand if you are a business. But how do you produce one? Firstly, you need to ask yourself (and or your team) the right questions.

In fact, there are 8 main questions you need to ask yourself when planning out your next (or first) podcast:

  1. What is my podcast about?
  2. What questions am I going to ask or answer/topics am I going to talk about?
  3. Who is my target audience?
  4. What is the best format for my podcast? Or where do I want to stream it?
  5. Where and how am I going to record my podcast?
  6. Am I going to edit my podcast, or hire an editor? If I don’t have editing skills, how am I going to develop them?
  7. Do I need imagery and or a logo?
  8. How long do I want my podcast to be?
Will there be someone to help?

An experienced member of staff is always on-site during your booking. On your first booking, we strongly recommend arriving 10 minutes before your booking. The staff member will set up and show you how to use the recording equipment as well as instruct you on how to get the best quality recording.

Can I bring my own equipment?

Of course! you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment, whether that’s cameras, microphones, or your very own engineers and videographers.

Can you facilitate live-streaming?

We can facilitate live streaming. Our podcast studios in London & Manchester have the technology to enable live streaming of recordings, with multiple camera angles and high-quality audio.

If you require this, when booking the studio please select this option in the extras section.

On the day of your booking, our technicians will walk you through using this technology. Don’t worry we have made this process incredibly simple!
